About
I am Jo, the person behind Foster Jou. Born in Argentina, raised in Chile, and living in Naarm since 2012.
I studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Chile, were I developed a particular interest for drawing as well as three dimensional work.
I started working with paper (collage) throughout my years in university and after graduating, but eventually moved into ceramics in the year 2019. Since then I have worked as a studio assistant and technician for Daisy Cooper Ceramics and Twelve80 Community Studio. I have also been teaching hand building courses at Northcote Pottery Supplies, Clae Space, Brunswick Neighbourhood House, and Twelve80.
My personal interests move between the representations of the natural world in pre-columbian pottery from South and Central America and contemporary imaginary in ceramics. Lately I have felt drawn to experiment with different found and waste materials such as clay sludge, broken ceramic tiles, and stones.
